Sarah and Daniel’s alternative wedding at Westcove House Kerry, Ireland
Did you see Sarah and Daniel’s Derrynane pre wedding photos on the blog last week? I was lucky enough to photograph weddings in Ireland twice this summer and spending a few days with Sarah and Daniel on the Kerry coast was wonderful.

How Sarah and Daniel first met
They met at the University of Victoria English graduate welcome picnic in Canada. At a pub night a few weeks later Daniel shared his fries and Sarah shared stories from her recent 6-month solo trip around Europe.
They quickly became friends, and then started becoming more than friends, But they didn’t want to date because they wanted to focus on their studies. They tried not dating for about a week and Daniel admitted that not dating Sarah was even more distracting.
The proposal
Sarah and Daniel got engaged spontaneously one morning in their flat before work. Sarah was folding laundry and Daniel was brushing his teeth. He suddenly came out of the bathroom and asked Sarah to marry him (and she said yes!).

A rustic country house wedding venue on the Southern tip of the Ring of Kerry, Ireland
I love the Irish landscape and Westcove House is nestled on the southern tip of the Ring of Kerry, overlooking Westcove harbour. It’s the perfect venue for a wedding at a home away from home. Having spent their entire relationship far away from their families and friends, Sarah and Daniel were really excited to have everyone together and to acknowledge the role that they have all played in their lives.
A first look and pre wedding portraits
After getting ready separately Sarah and Daniel did a First Look in the lane down by Westcove pier, with West Coast house in the background. We then explored the surrounding area (including some derelict buildings that I got very excited about!) and took some relaxed portraits, before their self officiated wedding ceremony next to the Atlantic ocean.
I really loved how relaxed Sarah and Daniel’s wedding was. Their guests were their closest friends and family. From home made cakes to a celtic hand fasting ceremony, the whole day was touching and heartfelt and set against the most beautiful of backdrops.
