Rustic relaxed Destination Wedding Photography MallorcaI’ve photographed a few weddings for childhood sweethearts this year.  It feels different when people who’ve already been everything to each other for such a long time get married.  Their families, friends and lives are already meshed and intertwined and the wedding day is a celebration of that.

Kim and Greg chose Finca Son Bosch on the Spanish island of Mallorca to celebrate their marriage, after 15 years together and I flew out with Pete to be their Mallorca wedding photographer.

I’ve been to Mallorca before but the South West of the island is a part I’ve never explored.  It was beautiful and we enjoyed exploring the pretty fishing village of Port d’Andratx, which is where Kim and Greg stayed before the wedding.

Here’s what Kim and Greg had to say about their Mallorca wedding photography:

It was really easy working with Laura and Pete. Their relaxed approach and friendly charismatic personalities helped us get some really natural looking shots. We love the documentary style of their photography and they have captured some amazing moments from our wedding. Laura was also in full control on the day, with videographers, a drone and lots of other people to work with (as well as the usual late running of the wedding timetable!) she was truly amazing and helped everything run smoothly.

The Beginning

It all started back at school when we used to mess about in lessons and get told off by the teachers for not listening. It has now been 15 years and we have enjoyed every second of growing up together. We got engaged a year before our wedding day and what a year of planning it has been! The proposal itself consisted of a carefully plotted treasure hunt around our home in Greenwich, there were hundreds of candles, clues placed in each room and chilled champagne ready to be opened. The treasure hunt ended on our roof terrace overlooking the London skyline at sunset time, thats when the question was popped and the celebrations began – truly perfect.

The destination wedding location and venue

We love Mallorca, it has everything, beaches, sunshine, vineyards, mountains, cycling, crossfit…. what more could you want? We also have family that live out there so have visited on numerous occasions. Once we decided that we wanted to have a wedding holiday with our nearest and dearest and make a long weekend of it rather than just a day, there was only one place in the running.

When we visited Mallorca in search of a venue we looked at nine different options and Finca Son Bosch ticked every box. It is family run, beautifully rustic, has a relaxed atmosphere, beautiful setting in the valley, amazing wine and from start to finish they could not have been more helpful in enabling us plan the wedding of our dreams. Planning a destination wedding has its challenges but Finca Son Bosch were there to help us every step of the way.

The Outfits

We loved the colour combination of grey and blue and quickly came to realise this was a common theme around our home!

Greg’s suit was a linen blend which was an obvious choice given the heat out in Mallorca. He loved the classic styling of the blue suit and blue accessories, accented with the stripy socks and tan shoes.

Everything about Kim’s outfit involved sparkles – the dress was delicate with a detailed sequin overdress, the belt was designed by the very talented Stewart Parvin, the shoes were covered in diamantes, then the body glitter finished off the look.

The decor

We wanted something fairly simple for our decorations as with a venue as naturally beautiful as Son Bosch not much more was needed. The venue organised our flowers and did an incredible job.

The Ceremony

Our ceremony was performed by a celebrant who is also a Mallorcan Actor – he wanted the ceremony to tell our story, like the script of a film and he certainly delivered that. We chose two readings, the first was ‘Love’ by Roy Croft, the second was ‘The Wonders of Today’ by Larry Chengges. Both readings really resonated with us and our relationship.

The Entertainment

We had an amazing saxophonist and DJ. He played during the ceremony, during drinks and canapés and then in the evening he would switch between his DJ decks and saxophone. He is incredibly talented and kept everyone dancing all through the night. The only complaint was sore feet and being too hot from throwing shapes on the dance floor.

The Words of Wisdom

In the many years that we have been together we have been to numerous weddings, our favourites have been the ones that felt like a holiday. Our aim was to replicate that holiday feeling which we most certainly did with our four day celebration abroad. If you can stretch it out and have people gathering and getting to know each other the days before and after then do it, it gives such a nice opportunity for all those important to you to get to know each other and means you also get to spend a good amount of time with everyone.

We would also advise that you do what is right for the two of you, focus on what you both will enjoy the most and everything else will fall beautifully into place.
