A micro-wedding with vintage steam trains: Jessica and Patrick tie the knot at Severn Valley Railway

Today, I'm sharing the wonderful wedding of Jessica and Patrick's, where I was their elopement wedding photographer at Severn Valley Railway. It was my first time photographing at this lovely and unique wedding venue and I’d love to shoot there again.

You don’t get much better than arriving to your wedding on a vintage steam train! The Severn Valley Railway is full of beautifully-restored trains, which made for a beautiful backdrop for Jessica and Patrick's intimate wedding ceremony.

They are looking at each other and smiling happy smiles. In the background are two regristras and the walls have lots of old fashioned trinkets like the old tickets stand, posters and other train related notices.

After arriving by train, Jessica and Patrick were joined by their parents for their intimate micro wedding. The ceremony took place in the period waiting room at Arley Station which, with the fire roaring, was a really atmospheric location for Jessica and Patrick to say their I Dos.

It was a special day for another person in attendance, as one of the steam trains that passed through as vows were exchanged was driven by the son of one of the registrars. She was really emotional as it was her son’s first day driving a train, after many years of volunteering on the railway.

After the Ceremony, Jessica and Patrick joined their families for champagne and lots of hugs , before hopping back onto a train to head into Birmingham for afternoon tea.

A wide photo at Arley Station at Severn Valley Railway. On the right there is a steam train and the leading lines of that and the station path lead the eyes directly to where a bride and groom walk towards the camera on their way to their intimate wedding ceremony. On the left of the picture is big tree and greenery which also lead the eye to the couple walking. There are also vintage milk bails and benches. In the foreground an old station lamp can be seen.

My love for intimate and mico-weddings

Jessica and Patrick found me through my local co working space, The Old Post Office. My friend Kerry runs it and I love it when couples find me through mutual connections.

I especially love a small wedding like this one. When you’re doing shorter photography coverage for a small wedding it feels special to be able to capture and be part of something so intimate, and I adore elopements!

Whether planning a big wedding celebration or something smaller and intimate like Jessica and Patrick, the Severn Valley Railway offers a range of ceremony locations, including the footplate of a locomotive (excellent for train fans for sure!). You can also host your reception with them, including one on a steam train, and I’d love to photograph that! Definitely worth checking out if you are looking for something a bit different for your wedding day.

After an intimate wedding ceremony at Severn Valley Railway the groom hugs a wedding guest, in the back ground is the bride hugging another guest and to the left of them both is a man smiling joyfully and clasping his hands together.
