Beautiful light for a Greencastle Donegal engagement shoot in Ireland
Pete and I met up with Steph and John for their Greencastle Pre Wedding Photography in beautiful Donegal and we were treated to the most beautiful, dramatic light.
We’ve photographed weddings and couples in Ireland a few times now and every time I go back I fall a little bit deeper in love with the country. In fact my first trip to Ireland was to photograph John’s sister Laura and her wedding to Danny, so it was really lovely to be back among friends. Every time I go to Donegal especially it cements itself as one of my favourite places in the world. It has quaint towns, beautiful beaches, dramatic coastlines and I’d actually quite like to live there.
A quaint Irish fishing town in Inishowen
Greencastle is a fishing town located on the Inishowen Peninsula and it’s a place that’s really special to Steph and John, as they spend a lot of time there. We headed out there the day after their wedding at The Derry Playhouse wedding to catch the last of the day’s sunshine and to shake off their post-wedding sore heads!
Weirdly every time I go to Ireland it’s beautifully sunny and the day of Steph and John’s shoot was no exception. We started in Greencastle village, where there’s bunting hanging in the colours of the Irish flag, before heading up the hill to catch the sunset.
Steph and John danced in fields, confused some sheep and hung out in a disused bunker with beautiful soft light and then the beautiful sunset happened. At the end of our shoot Pete and I stopped for fish and chips, which we ate watching the last of the light vanish over the horizon.
I adore shooting in Ireland and would love to head back soon, so if you’re getting married there or if you’re looking for a destination wedding photographer I’d love to hear from you.
