Tropical Barbican Conservatory Wedding London

Laura and Joel's laid-back and cool East London wedding photography

Laura and Joel's Barbican London wedding was absolutely lovely. The Barbican happens to be one of my favourite places; that brutalist architecture,  the glorious light, and the beautifully-varied plant collection in one of London’s best hidden tropical conservatories. It's a pretty magical spot to say your I-Dos.

Laura and Joel had been together for around 8 years when they married. Their first date featured cocktails and forgetting to eat dinner. The cocktail hangover was clearly worth it though!

Getting ready at The Hoxton Hotel

I spent the morning of Laura and Joel's Barbican London wedding at the Hoxton Hotel photographing Lauragetting ready. It was a laid-back affair and the cosy lighting made the perfect setting to capture the preparations, as well as Laura’s gorgeous dress. From The Hoxton we jumped in a taxi to meet Joel where he was waiting amongst the plants, to see Laura for the first time.

A first look in the Barbican Conservatory

After a first-look we took some portraits around the venue, as guests started to arrive for the ceremony. The ceremony took place against the backdrop of the conservatory, as a string quartet played. Laura and Joel finished their ceremony in a flurry of confetti, before joining their guests for cocktails, as music from Niche London Quartet the air.

Biodiversity and terrapins!

One of the things I love about the drinks reception part of a Barbican London wedding is that guests get to explore and discover the venue. There are exotic fish, terrapins, and over 1,500 species of temperate trees and plants. Many of the plants they have aer the same plants I have at home, which makes me feel like a failure as a plant owner. The Barbican also champions biodiversity and sustainability.

Dinner and speeches took place against the backdrop of Laura and Joel's stylish decor scheme. They're both very creative humans so they styled the wedding themselves, including making terrazzo coasters as favours.

After dinner, we jumped in taxis to head on to Voxonica for Laura and Joel's evening party. The cake was cut, Laura and Joel danced their first dance and then guests partied into the night. I loved being a part of Laura and Joel's day and being back at one of my all-time favourite venues.
