Are you looking for a LGBTQ friendly wedding photographer?

I photographed my first same sex union back in 2013, when civil partnerships were the only legal standing a same sex couple could hold.  I remember feeling immensely grateful to Kate and Camilla as they’d given me an opportunity to be a part of their celebrations and they’d taken a chance on working with me, even though I had no evidence of previous work as an LGBTQ friendly wedding photographer and I didn’t have any non-heterosexual couples in my portfolio at that point.

What I did have, though, was a stated commitment to equality and working with diverse couples, along with gender neutral language across all of my communications which was, at that time, not as common as you’d hope.

I remember feeling very, very emotional at Kate and Camilla’s wedding speeches, when they talked about their feelings of immense privilege because they were able to celebrate their relationship when so many LGBTQ people around the world are oppressed or unable to be open about their relationships.

To this date I have worked with a number of couples that identify as same sex but I have yet to work with any non-binary or transgender clients.  I’d love to and I’d really love to reaffirm my commitment to being an LGBTQ friendly wedding photographer who provides a friendly, welcoming and inclusive service.

I do this, frankly, by treating each person I work with as an individual.  My style is very much focussed on getting you to be yourselves in front of my camera and it doesn’t matter who you are or how you identify when using that approach.

For example when directing couples I don’t really pose you, rather I get you to interact with each other in the way that you usually would and I read each couple to ascertain their individual comfort levels.  You can read more about my approach to the photographing couples here.

I hope it’s obvious from my website that I’m a LGBTQ friendly wedding photographer but as a heterosexual, cisgender person I really want to reaffirm my commitment to working with and providing an amazing service to all couples, how ever they identify and also what ever their race, age and ability status.

I also appreciate that not every union falls within the “wedding” category so if you’re planning some other kind of celebration of your love then I’d love to be a part of that too.
