This is Robyn and Elliot’s Gate Street Barn wedding photography and I had the pleasure of working with them last summer.

I haven’t done a 15 Frames post for a while.  I occasionally share work this way as I enjoy putting together a post where the focus is on individual images, rather than the whole wedding story.  It forces me to look at my work differently and I share them out of sequence because it disrupts the narrative, and encourages each image to be viewed on its own.

There are always fragments of things you hold on to after getting to know a couple through their wedding.  With Robyn it was her love of animals that really struck me.  It was talked about in the speeches but reaffirmed when we went out into the fields around Gate Street Barn.  Robyn got some insects trapped in her dress and spent a long time getting them out not because she was worried about the dress but because she was worried about the insects.

Robyn and Eliott’s first dance resulted in one of my favourite first dance pictures ever.  It was one of the images that helped me to win Rangefinder Magazine’s 30 Rising Stars last year (a big highlight!).  A combination of the existing red lights, an off camera flash, a piece of copper pipe (see Sam Hurd’s ring of fire technique) and the unique hot air balloons and cloud decoractions created by Elliot’s sister all came together to create this shot.  I feel like I need hot air balloons and clouds dotted around my house.
