Creative portrait photography: Erin
I am focusing on doing a lot more creative portrait photography work this year, as I’d like to build this side of my business and have the chance to work with more people on a one to one basis.
Portrait photography requires a different approach to photographing weddings and I think people often feel a bit more self conscious because it’s just them and the camera, so you have to work a bit harder to get them to relax.
On the flip side you generally have more time and no outside factors (a late running dinner, for example) to contend with so it does give you an opportunity to work more creatively and spend time trying different things.
Berin Made is an award winning stationery company and one of the things I love most about them, aside from Erin’s beautiful work, is that they donate 10% of their proceeds towards funding a child’s stationery supplies at school in India.
I wanted to do a fun and quirky shoot with Erin that reflected her love of paper, so we decided to use some giant paper flowers that she had made for a previous shoot. She even let me take a couple home with me, bless her, and they are now sitting proudly in a vase on my mantle.
I also wanted to try something a bit different to my usual style and make the pictures look deliberately ‘flashy’ as that’s quite a strong aesthetic trend in a lot of fashion photography at the moment. It was really good fun to try something new.
I am currently running a special offer on portrait photography so if you’d like some creative portraits for your business, Linked in or just for fun do get in touch.
